About

Untitled

It began with a collaborative collage underpainting (see below)

Two pastel artist, Judy Albright and I,…

talked on the phone one evening, exchanging what our art-making had consisted of over the last months, maybe even years. Both of us were adventuresome, exploratory artists, venturing into more than pastel painting and when the subject of collage-making was introduced, we both had experiences to share. That led to an initiative to collaborate on a video demonstration for our Vermont Pastel Society featuring the use of collage as a pastel underpainting. We made several collages on our own, then got together to collaborate on two, before returning to our own studios to finish alone what we had started together. The above is one example, but others will be coming.

Our collaborative collage underpainting

This struck me as resembling a Calder mobile, so I finished the painting in his primary color palette.
